HELPFUL TIPS IN PLANNING AN EVENT
CATERER & VENUE
Extensive planning is the key to a successful wedding reception. Carefully decide on every detail and have as many options as possible. Obtain a number of menus and package estimates. Ask for references. Referral from previous customers will help you determine the best caterer and reception venue. Once you have decided, check on the particulars. Are linens, seat covers, chair ribbons, flowers and decorations included? Check if additional decoration from your end is okay. Check as well on the cutlery, stem ware, glasses and other serving facilities. Ask about the style of serving and the ratio of server to guests. Check on the capacity of the reception area and the availability of the parking space. Should you exceed the actual time of use, how much would be the extra cost? Will there be extra charges for electricity consumption of band, quartet, LCD and video? Check on the refund policy should cancellation be made.
WEDDING & DEBUT COORDINATOR
Wedding coordinator is must nowadays. Having one makes the event organized and worry free. However, in choosing a coordinator, you must look for someone whom you think has similar sense of conceptualization as yours. Do not let the coordinator dominate your dream wedding. Suggestions are helpful but you should always have the last assessment. Plan the wedding according to your sense of style with the help and guidance of the coordinator. Checking the coordinator’s credential is a cardinal rule. Do not hesitate to ask the most recent wedded couple for referrals.
INVITATION
The invitation reflects the type of wedding you are having. The style replicates the level of formality. Choose your invitations at least four months prior to the event. The invitations should be sent for at least six weeks before the wedding. Calligraphy is a must. Invitations should be addressed in ink and not a ballpoint pen. Hand written address gives the invitation a personal touch. RSVP for your invitation should be two weeks prior to the date. This will give you an ample time to finalize the number of guests with your caterer and arrange a definite table plan.
CAKE
Cake cutting during a wedding is a tradition as old as time. Romans believed that cake symbolizes good luck and fertility. The traditional icing color is white but modern times eventually turned the cake designs into a colorful option to match the wedding theme or motif. The following things are to be considered in choosing your cake: CAKE SIZE: Cake is normally served as dessert during the banquet. You may choose to have a bigger diameter for the edible part of the cake if you are considering a large number of guests. CAKE DESIGN: You may match the cake color with your bridesmaids' dresses or the color of your flowers. Trimmings may be fresh flowers, satin flowers, fresh fruits or edible flower candies. You may also put a doll top. If you wish to be more specific, you may have the design patterned with the lace and beads of your wedding gown. NUMBER OF TIERS: Commonly, wedding cakes have three tiers. Only the base tier is the edible part. You may keep the upper tiers as wedding souvenir. Should you wish to make your cake as one of the wedding highlights, more tiers is recommended. CAKE FLAVOR: The common options are chocolate sponge cake, butter cake or fruit cake.
SOUVENIR
Souvenir is an expression of your self. Wedding favors need not be expensive. What is important is the act of giving a token of affection and gratitude to your wedding guests. If you are creative enough, make it yourself. This way you can put your personal touches on the souvenirs. There are lots of local materials in the market that you can choose from. Otherwise, you may visit local wedding stores or surf the web for the most appropriate favors.
